Dr. Pablo González is an Associate Researcher at the Millennium Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy and serves as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He is also a member of the faculty of the doctoral program in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at the same faculty. Dr. González earned his degree in Biochemistry at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he also completed his PhD in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, for which he was awarded the Hermann Niemeyer Medal for academic excellence by the Chilean Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Subsequently, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the same institution, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Throughout his career, he has specialized in studying the interaction of pathogens with the host’s immune system.
In 2017, he was recognized as a Young Investigator by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and a Young Affiliate of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). His current research focuses on developing new strategies for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, with additional interests in the molecular mechanisms these viruses use to evade the host’s immune response.
